DORENA — A Mississippi River ferry connecting southeast Missouri and western Kentucky will receive about $1 million in federal funds for upgrades.

The money will be used to buy more powerful engines and a larger barge for the ferry, the Southeast Missourian reported Wednesday.

The upgrades should make it easier to shuttle cars and trucks across the river between Dorena and Hickman, Ky.
