SIKESTON — Two southeast Missouri towns are preparing for sesquicentennial celebrations next year.

Both Sikeston and Benton turn 150, and both are planning a variety of events to celebrate.

In Sikeston, the New Year's Eve hospital ball will begin a year of celebration. Among other highlights will be a beard-growing contest.

In Benton, things get started with a Founder's Day in April at the courthouse lawn. Other events will include a street dance and the digging up of a time capsule buried during the centennial celebration 50 years ago. Another time capsule will be buried.
