Friday, August 7, 2009 | 10:04 a.m. CDT

COLUMBIA – Dangerous heat and humidity are expected in the area this weekend, according to a statement from the National Weather Service.

A high near 98 is expected Saturday, with heat index values as high as 104. That night should have a low around 74.

A high near 95 is expected Sunday, with a night low around 74.

Monday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 93.

The National Weather Service said most eastern and central Missouri locations have not had similar levels of heat since June, so there is a greater potential for heat-related illnesses.
