JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri Department of Transportation is making preparations for next week's Tour of Missouri bicycle race.

The race begins on Sept. 7 in St. Louis and finishes Sept. 13 in Kansas City.

MoDOT has been working with race organizers since January to identify safe routes that avoid construction zones. Officials say the planning has been complicated somewhat by an extensive bridge repair and construction project.

The state is also working with the Missouri State Highway Patrol to secure the race route and alert motorists of planned road closings. Roads are to be closed a few minutes ahead of the bicyclists and will likely stay closed for about 30 minutes.
