HIGGINSVILLE — A small plane crashed Monday morning into Higginsville Lake, but both occupants apparently escaped unharmed.

Higginsville airport manager Kelly Ralston says the plane lost power after taking off from the airport and the pilot decided to land on the lake. Ralston told The Kansas City Star that the pilot had no other option.

The incident was being investigated Monday night.

Higginsville Lake is east of Higginsville, about an hour east of Kansas City.
