JEFFERSON CITY — A Missouri community service organization is sponsoring a memorial service at the Capitol to mark the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Gov. Jay Nixon and Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder were among several officials scheduled to speak at the ceremony Friday. A flyover by Missouri National Guard helicopters was also planned, and the American Red Cross is holding a blood drive in the Capitol.

The event honors people affected by the terrorist attacks as well as emergency personnel and those in the military. It's being sponsored by the Missouri Community Service Commission.
