Southeast Missouri cold case on 'America's Most Wanted'

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 | 10:14 a.m. CDT

NEW MADRID — It has been more than a decade since Sherri Ann Scherer and her 12-year-old daughter, Megan Elizabeth, were found dead at their home in rural southeast Missouri.

Now, the Fox TV show "America's Most Wanted" will seek help in solving the killings.

The Sikeston Standard Democrat reports the Missouri cold case will be featured in the program that airs Saturday night.

The mother and daughter were found slain in March 1998 at their home near Portageville.

New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens said the "America's Most Wanted" segment will focus on evidence linking the Missouri crime to another homicide in South Carolina.

Stevens said authorities believe that the same person is responsible for both crimes.
