KANSAS CITY — Independence police say a motorcyclist died after colliding with a truck while being chased by police into Kansas City.

Independence Police Capt. John Cato said the motorcyclist was being pursued by two officers Wednesday morning when he ran a stop sign and collided with a flatbed truck. He was declared dead at the scene.

Cato said the chase began after a police officer saw the motorcyclist commit a traffic violation in Independence.

The Kansas City Star reported that the motorcyclist was believed to be in his 30s, but his identity was not released.

Kansas City police are investigating the accident.
