COLUMBIA — Every school day, students walking to or from classes weave in and out of traffic on College Avenue — frequently getting stranded in the turning lane as cars and trucks whiz past them.
As a result of the accidents, the Missouri Students Association and the MU administration have begun to explore ways to improve safety for pedestrians traveling across College Avenue.
MSA is awaiting recommendations from a traffic study by MU's administration to decide the best course of action for the dangerous part of College Avenue.
Potential changes could include the addition of a crosswalk or the construction of another bridge, like the one that now crosses College Avenue near Rollins Avenue.
The potential construction will “hopefully chart a path to enhanced student safety,” MSA President Jordan Paul said in an e-mail.
