WARRENSBURG — A man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 91-year-old Warrensburg woman.

The Sedalia Democrat reports that 30-year-old John Marcos Ramirez of Warrensburg was charged Thursday in the Sept. 17 death of Maxine Ballew, whose body was found inside her burning home.

A pathologist found Ballew died of strangulation before the house fire.

Ramirez was arrested Sept. 22 and held on a state probation violation warrant out of Henry County in an unrelated case.

Johnson County Prosecuting Attorney Lynn Stoppy charged Ramirez Thursday.

Ramirez is being held in Johnson County Jail on $500,000 bond.

The Henry County Sheriff's Office did not know if Ramirez had an attorney. The Cass County Public Defender's Office declined to say if anyone there was representing Ramirez.
