JEFFERSON CITY — Prosecutors have charged an eighth person in a robbery that led to the death of one of the robbers.

Twenty-five-year-old Tommy L. Hawkins III, of Kansas City, was charged Tuesday with second-degree felony murder, first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. Hawkins has not been arrested.

Prosecutors allege that Hawkins and seven others tried to rob a mobile home in Jefferson City on Oct. 5 because they believed up to $40,000 was being kept there.

The robbers fled with only $1,000 after a man inside the mobile home shot 19-year-old Lamar Gardner of Kansas City, who later died.

Two Jefferson City residents and five other Kansas City area residents also face felony charges ranging from second-degree murder to hindering prosecution for their roles in the robbery.
