COLUMBIA — A portion of eastern Columbia was without power early Wednesday morning.

Three electric circuits east of Old 63 and south of Broadway and the Keene Street area were down between 3:30 and 5:50 a.m. Officials with Columbia Water and Light estimated that the power outage affected 3,500 people.

Officials attributed the loss of power to a failing switch gear between two circuits.
