COLUMBIA — The final fall compost workshop will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Capen Park

The workshop is free, and you need not bring anything. The 30-minute workshop will be led by an experienced volunteer, said Andrea Shelton, Public Works Volunteer Program Coordinator.

Everyone who attends will receive:

  • printed material about composting
  • either a free compost bin or a higher-quality one for $20 instead of the retail value, which can cost upwards of $60

The class will cover:

  • methods of composting
  • troubleshooting
  • different types of compost bins, including one made of chicken wire and another of wooden logs

If you go, you can also pick up free mulch, which will be available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The compost workshop is located at the end of Capen Park Drive off of Rock Quarry Road. The rain site is the Grissum Building, 1313 Lakeview Ave.
