COLUMBIA — A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper crashed and totaled his patrol car Thursday morning.

Trooper Derek Sullivan lost control of his 2008 Ford Crown Victoria on Missouri 22 in an effort to overtake a violator’s vehicle. Sullivan was headed westbound on Missouri 22 at U.S. 63 when his vehicle went off the left side of the road and rolled several times over an embankment.

Sullivan was released from the hospital Thursday morning with minor injuries, said Sgt. Paul Reinsch, spokesman for the Highway Patrol. The Crown Victoria was totaled, which is about $20,000 in damages.

An investigation is underway as to the cause of the incident. The unknown driver of the other vehicle will not be issued a citation, Reinsch said.
