Entering its game Tuesday night against Lee Summit, the Hickman girls basketball team was 2-0 and had only turned over the ball 15 times. But the Kewpies struggled in their first-round game of the Blue Springs Tournament, turning over the ball 28 times in a 60-29 loss.
"I think we were just kind of shell shocked," Hickman coach Tonya Mirts said. "They came out on the aggressive, and we never quite rebounded from that."
Hickman was led by junior guard Aqua Corpening who had 10 points, but the Kewpies 13 total field goals wasn't enough to compete with Lee Summit's 24 baskets.
The Kewpies played without talented freshman Jade Holly, who will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in her knee. She suffered the injury midway through Hickman's game against Jefferson City on Saturday. Holly scored 19 points in her first high school start, the Kewpies season-opening victory against Helias.
