ST. LOUIS — A 1-year-old St. Louis boy is in critical but stable condition after he was shot by his 7-year-old sister.

The shooting happened Saturday afternoon. An investigation continues and police spokeswoman Erica Van Ross says charges are possible.

Van Ross says the children were in the bedroom of a home when the gun discharged. The parents and other adults were in the living room and heard the shot.

The injured boy was shot in the chest. Names of the children were not released.

Police say the weapon was stored in a backpack in the bedroom and belonged to the children's 18-year-old uncle.
