Bothwell Regional Center to expand

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 | 4:50 p.m. CST

SEDALIA — The Board of Trustees of Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia has approved an $18.3 million expansion project at the hospital.

The Sedalia Democrat reports that plans include building a cancer and cardiovascular center and a medical office building.

Steve Biermann, chairman of the Bothwell Board of Trustees, says cancer and cardiovascular diseases are the most common health issues in Pettis and Benton counties.

Demand for cancer treatment at the hospital has increased 23 percent in the past three years, while chemotherapy treatments have more than doubled since 2005.

The Sedalia City Council must approve the proposal because Bothwell is a city-chartered hospital. It is expected to consider the issue Monday.
