COLUMBIA — The Columbia College women's basketball team defeated Park University 67-48 on Saturday at Southwell Complex to improve to 14-1 overall and 2-0 in the American Midwest Conference.
A 10-0 run at the start of the second half gave the Cougars a comfortable lead after the Pirates (1-12, 0-1) kept pace in the first half and pulled to a tie at 27 by halftime.
Columbia College's Whitney Widaman led all scorers with 18 points and five steals. Janita Session added 13 and Rachel Oswald finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and nine steals. The teams combined for 67 turnovers with Cougars able to turn Park’s miscues into 35 points. The Cougars outrebounded the Pirates 41-32.
Columbia College plays next when it hosts McKendree (Ill.) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at Southwell Complex. The Bearcats are 12-3 overall and 2-0 in AMC play with wins over William Woods and Hannibal-LaGrange.
