COLUMBIA — Boone County Presiding Commissioner Ken Pearson announced Thursday that he will not be seeking a second term in this year’s election.
Pearson, a Democrat, took office in January 2007.
In a news release, Pearson said that he would be 70 by the end of a second term and that he would rather use the time to write, read and travel with his wife.
Pearson also said in the release that he was proud of his work on the commission to promote economic development in Boone County. He also cited his efforts to streamline county government by consolidating county departments and creating a public information office.
He said in the release the two incumbent commissioners would provide stability when the new presiding commissioner takes office.
