LETTER: Obama gives with one hand, takes with the other

Monday, January 18, 2010 | 12:01 a.m. CST

President Barack Obama gives with one hand and takes away with the other. He gives stimulus checks, bails out banks, provides discounts for buying cars and homes, and provides help on mortgages.

On the other hand, he signs on to a free trade agreement with China that will allow more products made with slave labor to come into our country, putting our producers at a disadvantage, causing them to go out of business and lay off more workers. This will offset any good he has done with his stimulus measures. We already have an unfair trade balance with China.

After the Christmas attack on an airliner heading to our country, Obama said he was trying to do all he can to secure our country. He fails to realize that it takes more than sending troops to the Middle East to protect our country. Our borders are left wide open to illegal immigrants coming across each day by the thousands, bringing in drugs, women for prostitution, disease and perhaps terrorists with dirty bombs. He should also put troops at our borders to help the border guards. Many once-great nations fell from internal conditions such as poverty, disease, illiteracy, government corruption and immorality. We have it all.

In regard to health care, Rush Limbaugh said when he was released from the hospital that there was nothing wrong with our health care system. However, he failed to mention that this only applies to millionaires. Former Vice President Dick Cheney is always criticizing Obama on security; however, as a draft dodger, he didn't do his part, and as vice president, he and Bush's wars only created more hate, making our country less safe by turning many peaceful Muslims against us.
