Statistics show slight drop in St. Louis crime in 2009

ST. LOUIS — Crime in St. Louis overall was down in 2009 from the year before.

Police Chief Dan Isom said in a report to police commissioners Wednesday that from 2008 to 2009, overall crime dropped 2.5 percent.

KSDK reports that Isom said the city's five-year uptrend of homicides had finally turned. The 143 homicides in 2009 were down 24 from 167 in 2008.

In 2008, overall crime dropped nine percent. In 2007 it dropped 16 percent.
