COLUMBIA — Tai Chi instructor Ken Greene teaches a free class in the Columbia Armory Sports Center.

Greene said he has been an instructor since the '80s, but he is still learning every day. His appreciation for Tai Chi comes from its multiple health benefits as well as the community-building involved, he said.

"It's a visceral thing, and it's hard to describe," he said.

He said he offers the classes free of charge because "it seems like a good idea."

"It's like an art form. I wouldn't feel as comfortable doing it if I made money for it," he said.

As the class concludes, all of his students join hands, stretch together and then clap and cheer for each other. Greene teaches the classes on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings.
