JOPLIN — Michael Beatty, the former publisher of The Baltimore Examiner, has been named publisher of The Joplin Globe.

The Globe's parent company, Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., of Birmingham, Ala., announced Beatty's appointment Friday.

Beatty succeeds Daniel P. Chiodo, who retired in December after serving as Globe publisher since 1996.

Beatty began his journalism career in 1981 as an advertising salesman for the Dubuque Telegraph Herald. He has worked in small, medium and large metropolitan markets for several media companies.
