Missouri chief justice to update lawmakers on courts

JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri Chief Justice William Ray Price is scheduled to update lawmakers on the state's courts.

Price is to give the annual State of the Judiciary speech before a joint legislative session Wednesday morning. The annual speech gives the judiciary a chance to tell state lawmakers about pending issues facing the courts.

In recent years, chief justices have discussed changes to the process for selecting appeals court judges and warned of problems with Missouri's public defender system for the poor.
