COLUMBIA — Columbia staff members might be a little difficult to contact during the next week.

City departments including Public Works, Protective Inspection, Planning and the city manager's office began their move Friday from their offices in the existing Daniel Boone Building to the new city hall addition.

In a news release, the city asked people who need to conduct business with a city office to call ahead.

“Telephones will either be answered directly or monitored for voice mail messages, but we will do everything possible to remain accessible and responsive," Assistant City Manager Tony St. Romain said. "Keep in mind that we will be moving people, furniture, telephones and computers.”

Each department is scheduled to move as follows:

Friday through Tuesday

  • The Public Works Department, including administration and engineering, will move from the third floor of the Daniel Boone Building to third and fourth floors of the addition. The department can be reached at 874-7253.

  • The city clerk's office will move from the fourth floor of the Daniel Boone Building to the second floor of the addition. The office can be reached at 874-7208.

The Treasury Management Department, Utility Customer Service Department, cashiers, print and mail services and the mezzanine level conference room will remain open in the Daniel Boone Building.

The utility payment drive-through bay will remain open as well.

The public cannot currently enter the addition through the Daniel Boone Building, but it can be reached by a paved path marked by orange mesh fencing on Broadway.
