VIDEO: Charles Erickson recants his story, says he alone killed Tribune sports editor

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 | 5:24 p.m. CST
In this videotaped sworn statement taken on Nov. 22 at Potosi Correctional Center, Charles Erickson says that he alone beat and strangled Kent Heitholt. Because of the large file size for this 12-minute video, it may take a while to load in your browser.

Charles Erickson had once confessed to beating Columbia Daily Tribune sports editor Kent Heitholt with a tire tool, and he testified that Ryan Ferguson then strangled Heitholt to death. When Heitholt was dead, Erickson testified, they stole his car keys and the belt they’d used to strangle him.

Erickson recently recanted that story, saying that he alone was responsible for Heitholt's death and that Ferguson "never touched him."
