You can learn a lot about your community, state and country. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.
Each week the Missourian will feature another open record. This week:
The records: A list of registered sex offenders in Columbia from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Why you'd want them: Convicted sex offenders must register with the state. They are required to provide the locations of their home, work and school, and provide a photo. You can find whether there are offenders near the places you frequent, or search for specific names of offenders.
Where you get the records: Go to the Missouri State High Patrol website . In the top toolbar, click on "Search/Map Offenders."
How much it will cost: The information is free.
