Columbia — With National Eye Donor Month approaching next month, Heartland Lions Eye Banks is encouraging Missouri residents to become eye, organ and tissue donors, according to a press release.

Residents can register as a donor by visiting:

  • A Missouri Department of Revenue office when renewing or obtaining a driver's license.

People who are older, have poor eyesight or have a non-communicable illness can still donate.

Last year, around 130 Columbia residents were eye donors through Heartland Lions Eye Banks. Around 1,300 Missourians were donors.

Nicole Plegge, spokeswoman for Heartland Lions Eye Banks, said there is no shortage of donors but donations are always needed.
