COLUMBIA — Tuesday was the first day for candidates to file for the Aug. 3 primary election. After the candidates filed, they select a number by random drawing to determine their placement on the primary ballot. In the ensuing days, candidates are placed on the ballot in the order in which they file.
The dates for candidates to file runs from Tuesday until March 30.
Voters must be registered by July 7 to vote in the August election. Voters can get information on how to register here.
Candidates for Republican, Democrat, Libertarian and Constitution parties can register. Candidates from other parties must collect signatures to appear on the ballot.
