COLUMBIA —Two reports of rape that occurred over the weekend are currently under investigation by Columbia police.

One incident involving an 18-year-old woman occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday. The woman met a man she knew for a date at his apartment, according to Public Information Officer Jessie Haden. The woman said the man raped her in a bedroom, while other men were in the apartment.

"We've consulted with the prosecutor and are not sure if (the suspect) will be arrested or not," Haden said in an e-mail Tuesday. A witness present in a different room at the apartment was also questioned.

In a different incident, a 22-year-old woman called police Saturday to report a rape the night before.

After a police interview, she was taken to the emergency room at University Hospital. Medical personnel believe that there was evidence of sexual activity.

The woman said in an interview Friday that she and a female friend had one drink at a downtown bar and then went to another four blocks away. She recalls having only two more drinks there before she became disoriented. She later awoke in her apartment.
