Missouri schools to promote maths and sciences this week

Wednesday, March 3, 2010 | 9:34 a.m. CST

JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri is marking Math, Engineering, Technology and Science Week.

Gov. Jay Nixon is urging schools to promote activities that raise awareness of those topics. Nixon said getting young children inspired about math and science raises the likelihood that they'll enter those fields.

A state law approved in 2009 dedicates the first week of March to math, engineering, technology and science. The recognition is designed to improve the state's work force by generating more interest in those fields.
