Two children dead after fire in a Springfield home

Monday, March 15, 2010 | 10:05 a.m. CDT

SPRINGFIELD — Two children died after an early morning fire in Springfield. Their grandfather and one more child remain hospitalized.

The Springfield News-Leader reported that the fire occurred at about 4:30 a.m. Monday.

Firefighters rescued three young children and their grandfather from the second story of the house. All four were taken to a local hospital with burns and smoke inhalation.

The mother and the father of the family were reported to not be injured. The fire marshal is investigating the cause.
