COLUMBIA — The Columbia Chamber of Commerce announced its support on Friday for the 2010 Columbia Public schools bond issue proposal and the home rule city charter amendments .

The endorsement of the bond issue came after Columbia Public Schools Superintendent Chris Belcher spoke to the chamber's education and government affairs committees earlier this month, according a news release.

“The 2010 school bond issue would provide students adequate facilities in which to learn and to provide the necessary tools for them to be successful,” said Don Laird, president of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber is endorsing the home rule city charter amendments because they are tools to increase effectiveness and improve city government, according to the release.

Both items are slated to appear on the April 6 ballot.
