UPDATE: Report: Feds looking at Kansas ticket sales

Wednesday, March 24, 2010 | 5:38 p.m. CDT

KANSAS CITY — The University of Kansas plans an independent review of the athletics department's ticket office and its fundraising entity, the Williams Educational Fund.

Wednesday's announcement follows a report by The Kansas City Star quoting anonymous sources as saying federal investigators are looking into possible illegal sales of Kansas basketball tickets.

Athletics Director Lew Perkins said in a news release the independent review is aimed at protecting the university's reputation.

Perkins confirmed earlier this month that assistant athletics director Rodney Jones had been placed on administrative leave. Jones has headed the Williams Fund, which last year collected about $15 million for scholarships, for the past four years. He also had been running the ticket office.
