Friday, March 26, 2010 | 5:50 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — A Columbia man police believed had returned after escaping from a southeast Missouri jail was arrested in Arkansas, police said Friday.

Police served a search warrant at a southwest Columbia home on Wednesday looking for Jermaine Spears, 28. When they didn't find him there, police asked for public assistance in a news release.

Spears pleaded guilty to a 2002 armed robbery of the Break Time on Nebraska Avenue in Columbia and was sentenced to seven years at the Missouri Department of Corrections. At the time of his escape, Spears was being held at New Madrid Jail on first-degree assault and second-degree robbery charges, according to Missouri Case.net.
