LETTER: Delivering babies is not like delivering jobs

Wednesday, March 31, 2010 | 5:23 p.m. CDT

Just because he delivered babies does not mean Dr. Bob McDavid is the best candidate for mayor of Columbia. Having worked with both Dr. McDavid and Dr. Jerry Wade in the past and having watched them in their present roles as hospital trustee and city councilman, respectively, I strongly support Dr. Wade for mayor.

We need to remember that even though the Boone Hospital Center trustees negotiated a good compromise on the lease agreement with BJC Healthcare, Dr. McDavid still voted "No." Yes, he worked in the negotiations for a better lease with BJC Healthcare, but in the end, he still voted "No."

If you are looking for a mayor who will "bring the community together with a good balance of differing opinions and backgrounds," according to the Columbia Chamber of Commerce news release, then you are seeking Dr. Wade. Dr. Wade continues to bring together organizations, departments, associations and neighborhoods in his tireless work on the City Council.

Delivering babies is not like delivering jobs.

Please vote Jerry Wade — Columbia's next mayor — on April 6. Thank you.
