JOPLIN — A group that supports buffer zones for large hog farms near Arrow Rock says it will appeal a ruling in the case to the Missouri Supreme Court.

On Tuesday, a Missouri Court of Appeals panel overturned a lower court ruling that set up a buffer zone around the historic village central Missouri village.

The Joplin Globe reports that Kansas City attorney Richard Miller said Wednesday that the Missouri Parks Association, Friends of Arrow Rock and the village of Arrow Rock will appeal the case to the state Supreme Court.

Miller says the plaintiffs believe the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has a legal obligation to protect state parks and historic sites from odors and pollution.

Opponents argue that the state Legislature, not a judge, should decide whether buffers should exist around state parks and historic sites.
