UPDATE: Police seek two men on sex crimes charges

COLUMBIA — Columbia Police were seeking two suspects Thursday on suspicion of sexual offenses, Mark A. Whitworth, 47, and William L. Palmer, 18.

Public Information Officer Jessie Haden said in a news release Thursday night that Whitworth had turned himself in to the Boone County Jail. He was being sought on charges of:

  • One count of deviate sexual assault
  • One count of sodomy
  • Two counts of first-degree statutory rape
  • Two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy
  • One count of incest
  • One count of first-degree child molestation

Whitworth's bond is set at $450,000, cash only.

Palmer is also a suspect. His last known address is 749 Demaret Drive. He is wanted for:

  • One count of statutory sodomy
  • One count of statutory rape

Palmer and Skylar L. McClanahan, who is currently in the Boone County Jail, are charged in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl while she was sleeping at a family friend's house March 31, according to the release. McClanahan was arrested April 7. This case is separate from Whitworth's case

Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at 874-7652 or Crime Stoppers at 875-TIPS. Those who call CrimeStoppers may be eligible for a reward if an arrest is made from the information.
