Missouri couple stranded by theft of home ramp

INDEPENDENCE — The theft of an aluminum ramp has left a western Missouri couple with medical problems stranded in their home.

Independence police say thieves apparently jumped a fence around the home of Darl and Judy Jackson early Thursday and stole the ramp, which cost $1,000 when the couple bought it four years ago.

At today's prices, police say the thieves can probably get about $40 to $90 for the metal.

For the Jacksons, the ramp was priceless. Darl Jackson needs a scooter to get around. Judy Jackson is still recovering from a wreck that broke her hip. They needed the ramp to get to medical appointments.

A company has loaned the couple a ramp for a week. They're not sure what they'll do after that.
