JEFFERSON CITY — A fighter jet manufacturer is set to become the latest person inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians.

A bronze bust of James Smith McDonnell Jr. is to be unveiled Monday at the Missouri Capitol.

McDonnell founded the McDonnell Aircraft Corp. in 1939 and remained the chairman of the board of directors until he died in 1980. The company became a leading producer of fighter jets and built the first spacecraft to carry an American into orbit.

House Speaker Ron Richard is to preside over the induction ceremony in the House chamber.
