COLUMBIA — A fire at the El Maguey restaurant on Nifong Boulevard left substantial smoke and water damage on the restaurant's main floor.
The Columbia Fire Department responded to a call at 6:34 a.m. Thursday morning that reported clouds of smoke coming from the restaurant.
The first truck arrived at 6:36 a.m., and the fire was under control within 10-15 minutes, Battalion Chief James Weaver said. There was no one in the building when the fire broke out, and no one was injured.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Weaver was not sure when the restaurant will reopen.
