Missouri Lt. Gov. Kinder picks lawyer for health care lawsuit

Wednesday, April 21, 2010 | 4:34 p.m. CDT

JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder says his challenge to the federal health care overhaul will be handled by Washington lawyer Thor Hearne.

Kinder, a Republican, has said he plans to sue in federal court and focus on senior issues and the solvency of Medicare. He is raising private money to pay for the legal challenge.

The lieutenant governor's office said Wednesday that Hearne would represent Kinder.

In 2006, Hearne helped defend a Missouri law requiring voters to show a government-issued photo ID to cast a ballot. The Missouri Supreme Court ruled the requirement was unconstitutional.
