The Ellis Fischel Cancer Center has been awarded and stripped of funding over the past few years. The funding would help build a new facility for the center, as well as increase research and employment opportunities.
Funding for the construction was stripped again from the state budget on Thursday by a Missouri Senate committee.
Despite the bipartisan efforts of several Boone County legislators to secure the funds, other senators say the money would benefit a greater number of people if spent on other projects.
"It would be unfair to the rest of the state to single out one project
that is relatively new to the list and fund it," said Sen. Joan Bray,
About a year ago, the center was also stripped of similar funding.
Do you think funding for Ellis Fischel should be a bigger state priority?
