Severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 3 p.m. for Boone County

A severe thunderstorm watch was posted for Boone County until 3 p.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service forecasts thunderstorms affecting the area between noon and 1 p.m. with the possibility of wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, large hail and frequent lightning.

The watch also includes all counties adjacent to Boone County.

The weather service advises moving to a safe location indoors and away from windows "at the first rumble of thunder." According to the posting, "If you are close enough to hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning."
