Autopsy: officer's shot killed Springfield man

SPRINGFIELD — Greene County officials said an autopsy has confirmed that a Springfield police officer's shot killed a man during a traffic stop.

The Springfield News-Leader reported that 22-year-old Dumone D. Starks was shot Saturday after he pointed a gun at officers.

Greene County Deputy Medical Examiner Tom Van De Berg said Sunday that Starks died from a gunshot to the chest.

Springfield police said Starks was a passenger in a car that was stopped because police thought the driver might be intoxicated.

Police said Starks ran from the car and eventually pointed the gun at an officer. When he ignored commands to drop the gun, he was shot.
