Eight arrested during Columbia sobriety checkpoint

COLUMBIA — The Columbia Police Department stopped 354 vehicles at a sobriety checkpoint Saturday at Forum Boulevard near Katy Lane.

The checkpoint, which took place between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m., resulted in three arrests for driving while intoxicated.

In addition, there were:

  • Three arrests on driving under suspension or revocation
  • One arrest on unlawful use of a weapon
  • One arrest on possession of marijuana
  • Nine seatbelt warnings
  • 59 warnings on no insurance
  • 7 other nonhazardous moving violations cited

The department conducted the checkpoint with the grant from Missouri Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Division for participating in the “You Drink & Drive, You Lose” campaign. For more information, go to
