Columbia College softball team earns No. 19 seed at NAIA tournament

COLUMBIA — Columbia College has earned the No. 19 seed in this season's NAIA national softball tournament and will open play in the tournament at 11:30 a.m. May 20 at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in Decatur, Ala., against No. 11 seed Dickinson (N.D.) State.

Other teams in the Cougars' pool include No. 6 seed Belhaven (Miss.) and No. 27 seed Northwood (Texas) University.

Columbia College, No. 25 in the final NAIA poll at 36-17, earned an automatic bid to the tournament by winning last week's American Midwest Conference Tournament. Dickinson State (33-11) gained an at-large bid after falling in the championship game of the Dakota Athletic Conference tournament to Minot State University.

The Cougars are scheduled to play Belhaven (50-8) at 12:30 p.m. May 21 and will face Northwood (33-21) at 10 a.m. Saturday.
