LANCASTER — A 32-year-old man died after being swept away during a flash flood in north-central Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Jody D. Jones of Rutledge was in a vehicle on a rural road south of Lancaster when the pavement gave way over a culvert because of flash flooding in the area.

The front of the vehicle fell through the road. The patrol said Jones drowned while trying to get out of the vehicle.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for several areas of Missouri because of recent heavy rains.
