COLUMBIA — A Columbia man was charged with first-degree sexual abuse after a 16-year-old said he assaulted her while she was asleep.

Jerry Thorpe, 38, was already in Boone County Jail on a third-degree domestic assault charge when the new charges were filed.

The 16-year-old told police she was staying with a friend on the day of the alleged abuse in October, said Jessie Haden, public information officer for the Columbia Police Department.

The 16-year-old positively identified Thorpe on April 26, Haden said.

Thorpe's bail is set at $20,000 in cash for the domestic assault charge and $100,000 cash or bond for the sexual abuse charge.
