INDEPENDENCE — The general overseeing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will speak in Missouri next month at an event commemorating the start of the Korean War.

Gen. David H. Petraeus is the keynote speaker for the June 21 ceremony at the Community of Christ Auditorium in Independence.

The nonprofit Truman Library Institute organized the event to mark the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the war on the Korean peninsula.

Organizers expect the Korean War Veterans Appreciation Ceremony to draw thousands of people, including elected officials and military leaders from the U.S. and abroad.

Admission is free, but tickets are required.
